Age groups will follow the 2024 OLA age groupings.
History
Our program began in the fall of 2020 as the NCLL (National Capital Lacrosse League) after a non-season of lacrosse had limited the ability of Ottawa area residents to play lacrosse. We started outdoors on the dek ball rinks of the Rideau Sports Centre and played 3v3. The energy and excitement of that first evening of programming was incredible. Fast forward a couple years and the pandemic restrictions had changed and most sports programming is again active making it challenging to run a local lacrosse league. As a result we transitioned to attending tournaments as a travel team. It only then felt right to have a team nickname. Our original logo is below.
Enter Loggers as our new program name. Ottawa has a long history of trade based on the Ottawa river where many waterways connect. One of those trading industries was logging. The grueling work of getting logs down the Ottawa river was done by Log Drivers as seen in the first image below using a tool called a Pike Hook. Primarily white and red pine was felled and tied into small units called cribs. Large number of cribs would be attached to make up rafts that would take many months to get to larger ports like Montreal of Quebec City. Often these rafts had captain's quarters (for the lumber baron) and cooking facilities for crew as you can see in the second and third images.
Why did we take our inspiration from a log driver - a great lacrosse player has many of the same characteristics - tough, strong, agile, and smart.
We would like to thank all the players, coaches, officials, admin, and families that have been part of the program from our first beginnings. Our NCLL logo was created by Spencer Corkery and our Logges logo was created by Adrian Larocque. It would not be possible to run programming in Ottawa without the support of the Ottawa lacrosse community - lucky to be part of #613LAX!!
